How are you going about ‘adding the computer on workgroup’? Usually, all you do is change the workgroup on the computer. There is no network path.

right click on My Computer/name tab.
type in the workgroup name in the box. should be a done deal. Oh and network path might be that your nic is misconfigured or your cable is not connected to the router if you are still unable to see the workgroup. it also does that if you are trying to access a shared folder you are not shared to. Could be a number of things.

network path explained
by xnavydk · about 15 years, 3 months ago
In reply to NETWORK PATH
The network path usually refers to something you are trying to access. For your “workgroup” is going to be a resource on another machine or shared internet whatever. so check your permissions on the specific folder you are trying to access on the other machine. If it does not work even after you see the permission set, remove all permissions and re add them sometimes this jumpstarts the process. just make sure to rename it exactly how it was before. also you can check to see if you have the proper services installed on your nic. Folder and file sharing, netbios and the like. check the other machine that works and install/uninstall to match. I understand your frustration but please try to give more detailed information so we are not shooting in the dark.

Have you checked with your WORK network administration to see if it’s OK for you to connect this computer to the WORK network? Perhaps they have security in place which prevents you from doing this.

Firewall Issue?

Try temporarily, turning off the firewall.
If Vista, You might have your PC set to “Public” network which blocks file sharing.
