New 2kserv won't allow 2kpro to chat

By wburdine ·
I have an NT4.0 server that is the main server. I just installed a Win2k server to handle VPN, terminal services, etc... My PROBLEM is that from the new 2K server I can only issue the command "\\computer_name\c$" succesfully to all the NT4.0 workstations except one and not at all to the Win2k Pro workstations. Why would this be? This is a new install of Win2k server and this is the only problem I am having. Terminal services runs fine and so does the VPN as well as other programs.
Thanksin advance, William

I don't know what you're exactly trying to do but I do know that the C$ share doesn't work like it did in nt 4.0. That was one of nt 4.0's downfalls. I believe you might have to make a new share on the W2K machines if you want to share it out to the network, but if you're just logging in for admin purposes just use the connect as and click the remember password box. The bad thing about nt 4.0 is that if someone is running it off a dsl or cable modem and didn't remember to disable that c$ share anyone and I mean anyone can just type in that users ip address\c$ and guess what happens? They have complete control of that computer. I knew a guy who would connect to peoples nt 4.0 machines and send messages to their printer saying to unshare the c$. I know it might be a pain but it's just another security feature kind of.
