New motherboard problems

By john.herndon ·
I recently bought a new motherboard, and installed a 700 MHz Intel Celeron processor chip. Board has max 728 Mb ram capability (192 Mb installed), 2 ISA slots, 5 PCI slots, 1 AGP slot, 2 USB ports, 2 serial ports, 1 parallel port. I have a SCSI card for my Zip drive in one of the ISA slots (I've tried the shared and the non-shared slots), and my desktop (Intel) digital camera is plugged into the USB port (I've tried both of them). The problem is that the PnP in Windows 98 SE will not detect either the USB device or the SCSI board. They don't show up in the Device Manager in Control Panel. And since neither piece of equipment has been detected, I have no camera and no way to back up.
These worked fine on my old (Gateway) motherboard (233 Mhz, PII). What can the problem be? And how do I fix it? Everything else works perfectly.

Thanks for any help you can give.

It sounds like an IRQ conflict. Have you went
into add/remove hardware and made sure you added it? If so, check your IRQ and DMA settings to ensure you have no conflicts.

PnP is OK, but in this case, you may need to manually install these devices. Perhaps the MB is not capable of detecting PnP (even the O/S is). Perhaps the MB has "auto-detect of PnP" disabled. Next time you boot, get into the BIOS and carefully wander around looking for related options.

Oh, and while you're at it, make sure the BIOS has been updated from the MB mfgr.

Sounds like you have not installed all of the Motherboard drivers that came with your new motherboard. This will cause the same symptoms you are describing. Good Luck.

It sounds like you may have a conflict with the IRQ settings, for your camera. If you baught the card as an after market you will need to refer to the manual to determine the correct COM and IRQ settings to use.IF you are trying to plug the zip drive into the SCSI card and you aready have your two IDE ports occupied, you will need to plug your zip into the ribbon cord of either your hard drive or your floppy.I had the same problem with a CDRW.Do check the PnP option in setup. My SCSI card does not show up either but the COM port sees my camera and is detected by Windows.
