Noron Antivirus...

By peetree ·
I would like my Sisterinlaw to install Norton SystemWorks into here computer to aid in the care of the system. It however has Norton's Corporate Edition Antivirus. I imagine loaded by the Dell. Before it will allow you to install SystemWorks it asks you to uninstall the Corporate Edition. Is this a wise decision, can she subscribe, scan the system, unistall the Coporate Edition, install SystemWorks - with the regular antivirus - and still retain here original subscription.

Check to see if she has a restore disk that came with computer,it may have the coporate edition on it

By subscribing she should get the latest update to software, not the original version that was installed on computer at time of purchase, the old subscription will be overwritten by the newer version to which she will not have a disk available if at any time that she has to reinstall the software.
No,she will not retain the original subscription but a new one

to answer your question, no. she cannot subscribe, scan then install. we, maybe she could but you might be sorry you did it that way. norton can be picky picky depending on what and what version is installed. best always to uninstall first and maybe even use the Norton tool RNAV2003 if necessary (see www.symantec.com).
Get NIS on order, you want the cd, not the download. when it comes, logon with an account with administrator rights and uninstall Norton Corporate Edition, then LiveUpdate and LiveReg and anything else that is related. then install NIS and LiveUpdate it until it tells you it is all updated. might be several times. this is very important step and you have to watch it because if anything doesn't update (you will see it plainly if there is a problem), fix it by taking symptoms to www.symantec.com. I do not like norton system works at all. I personally would go with plain Norton Anti-virus, ZoneAlarm Pro and maybe Ad-Aware SE with Ad-Blocker turned on. and i usually would not go for such a complicated solution.

Leave Norton's Corporate Edition Antivirus on computer, and do a custom install of Norton Systemworks.
YOu can then choose which individual programs to install such as ghost, disk doctor etc., and can skip over the antivirus install
The more you start uninstalling and installing Symantic software, the more risks you take.
