Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition 7.0

By ebpl ·
Using Symantec System Center, I attempted to remotely install the client software on about 20 systems. This worked on some of the PCs. But, on others the message says initializing remote installation, copying files, complete; however, these systems do not show up on the system hierarchy and the icon in their individual system trays shows an exclamation point, which means the installation did not complete. On still others, I get an error message that some files could not be copied and installation is aborted. All of the systems are running NT 4.0.

I'm not sure if this applies to your situation but I've had problems doing automated installations of Norton Antivirus as well. Basically, my problems were rights related. Part of the Norton installation updates a services area of the registry that only the system account has the authority to write to (even administrator is locked out). The standard installation automatically has System priviledges but if you try to re-package the installation you can be limited to the rights of the currently logged in user. To get around this you can grant the user account the "act as part of operating system" right or you could use the scheduling service to run your package. (The scheduling service is, by default, set to log on as service).

Hope this helps.
