Not able to browse Samba server

By noorazman ·
I have install samba server as member of NT domain. My workstation is win95. It works fine and I don't even need to logon to NT domain to access the samba server. But now I cannot even browse it.. I have to click 'Find Computers' to find it. This make an extra clicks. What could go wrong ?
What should I do ?

Make sure you have wins running on your network, and that the samba machine is a client (if that's your setup) in smb.conf.

As the other poster said, make sure either WINS or DNS is running and have the proper entries if you are using them. Alternatively, add an entry in your hosts file (c:\windows\hosts for WIndows 95). I've been told to put an entry in the lmhosts file as well, but I haven't actually tried that either.

I have also found problems if the name is too long (ie mis_data_srv) because of truncation or whatnot - this is especially true of actual shares.
