NT 4.0 Print Server

By ddornak ·
We have some printers shared through one of our servers (it worked at first). Now, when a workstation tries to print to a printer attached to that server, get error message (error writing to that printer). In fact, the server itself cannot print to any of it's printers, but the server can print to other printers attached to other servers. We have messed up the permissions somehow, but not sure what to check. Any suggestions

You can check the permissions by right clicking the printer you want to share click on security, then permissions and see who is allowed full access. You may have accidentally given read only access to your users. From here you can assign individuals or group rights to your printer make sure your users have full access. Also, I've had problems with shared printers off NT servers. I'm doing away with this type of setup and assigning IP addresses to each printer. I purchase mostly HP printers so I load HPJet Admin on each PC, doing this allows the user to print directly to the printer rather than a queue on a server and then the printer. In essence you?re cutting out the middleman. I hope this helps.
