NT policies and Netware

By efhalter ·
I am attempting to implement NT policies on a Netware 4.11 server (patched to SP7). We have worked with win95 policies
with no problem; create the policy, save it on the server and
have a group of users access it (specifically for Corel WP8).
However, we are having no luck with NT. We've set up the NT
box, installed the Netware client, but in poledit, we 1) can't see
the list of users and groups on the server like we could in poledit
on Win95 and 2) when we attempt to save the policy to the
netware volume, we get an error writing the file. It write *some*
kind of file, but it is not readable by poledit after it's written.

NO, permissions appear to be fine (for instance we can save
and open other non ".pol" files to the server) and long name
space is enabled.

Anyone have any ideas???

I don't know if this helps you or not, but if you are only trying to implement set restrictions on your NetWare network you can still use your Win95 policy editor.
You just create your system policies save them as Config.pol and place them in the SYS:PUBLIC, if you want to create group policies rather than user or computer policies, then be sure to install group policy support on every computer you apply the group policy to (the file is Grouppol.dll)
To enable policies that can be used on NTand Win95 systems you have to create two files, Config.pol and NTConfig.pol
Once you have your policies created and in place you will need to use Manual Update to specify the path to the new policy file.

If you install Zen Starter Pack 1.1 which comes with the Netware package (normally on the clients CD). This will let you administer all rights through the network Administrator 32. You will need to install the workstation manager app on the workstations in question, but this emulates the WIN95 and WinNT policy editors, but you can create profiles inside of the NetAdmin program.

I think you would be best served by using the Zen starter pack, that you can either download from the Netware site, or often comes shipped with netware on the Clients CD. This will allow you to create policy templates within Network Admin 32.
