NT policies on Netware - Help!

By efhalter ·
I am attempting to implement NT policies on a Netware 4.11 server (patched to SP7). We have worked with win95 policies with no problem; create the policy, save it on the server and have a group of users access it (specifically for Corel WP8).

However, we are having no luck with NT. We've set up the NT box, installed the Netware client, but in poledit, we 1) can't see the list of users and groups on the server like we could in poledit on Win95 and 2) when we attempt to save the policy to the netware volume, we get an error writing the file. It write *some* kind of file, but it is not readable by poledit after it's written.

NO, permissions appear to be fine (for instance we can save and open other non ".pol" files to the server) and long name space is enabled.

Anyone have any ideas???

I would suggest that you look at the ZenWorks product. You can download the ZEN starter kit & client from Novell for free and it allows you to create policy packages for W95&NT in the NDS for containers, users and workstations. User policies are easy to create and assign to groups, containers or individual users. The full ZEN package allows you to collect inventory info into worksation objects and assign policies to the workstations. There is info on the Novell site at http://www.novell.com/advantage/zen/

I have had most success with NT policy files when I copy ntconfig.pol from the network to a local drive, edit it, save changes to local copy and copy the new file back.
This editing must be done using NT's poledit in NT.
If you want to extend ZEN policies use the policy file tab in NWAdmin, but remember to check the order and which items will be applied.
