NT server tools on 98 - security button

By cbalusek ·
When I install the NT server tools on 98 systems, and right click on an NTFS partition, the security button "clicks" but the user rights dialog box does not pop up. (And yes, it IS an NTFS partition.) This tools work fine on 95.

Did you add C:\SRVTOOLS to your path statement? I've seen some installs of the Server admin tools not add it for you. If you add it manually to your path statement in AUTOEXEC.BAT (i.e. appending ;C:\SRVTOOLS to the end of the PATH= statement or inserting PATH=%PATH%;C:\SRVTOOLS at the end of AUTOEXEC.BAT), the problem should go away.

Toby

Are you using tools from original NT 4.0 CD? They seem to have trouble with the new permission system introduced with service pack 4. Try using newer version of utilities available from May 99 Technet CD's.

According to MS these tools are not for Win98, although they do seem to work fine in most cases. MS does not appear to have a set of tools for 98?
