NTBackup – .v01 files in catalogs51 folder not deleting

Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone can shed any light on this issue. I am running a windows 2003 server that has a windows backup job scheduled to run every night. It looks like the backup job is creating some files with the extension V01 files in the following folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows NT\NTBackup\catalogs51

I am asuming that these are some kind of temporary files created by the backup job. The problem is that they don’t seem to be removing themselves. These are filling up the C drive and every few days i need to go in and delete them.

Anyone any ideas on how I can cure this problem.

restore you have to re-catalogue the disk every time, so having them on the
hard drive speeds up restores but isn’t necessary. You can just remove the
others and only left the latest one you currently use.”

Bizzo,
Thank you so much for the information but unfortunately it does not apply to me. I need to find a safe way to delete those files or move them. Found this link it only applies to NT servers.

again that doesnt apply to me because I found other files that end with 0V01,.FDD and .SM.

per the instructions on the article I should be able to go to Backup Utility, Select Tools and Report and be able to view those (.V01) files. on my system I dont have anything listed there. This is so confusing.

But I do appreciate you trying to help.
