Num Lock ON/OFF

By highlander718 ·
My NumLock is OFF all the time I'm starting my PC. I know there is a way to set it to be ON every time you start. How ?

You can go into your BIOS, when you start it up, you either hit esc or del. When you turn it on it will say (SETUP) and the button to push. Next, you will have to look in advance settings. It should say something like number or something like that in there. If it is not there, ESC out of that page, and keep looking. When you find it, you use the arrows to hit it, and then change the selection. Exit out by saving the settings and your computer will restart. The number should be on then. Hope that helped.

There should be a BIOS setting to turn the numlock on or off at boot up.

Go into the BIOS when you initially boot up (most likely by pressing the delete key), go to the Advanced BIOS Features (or something similar, depending on your particular BIOS), scroll to Boot Up NumLock status (again, or something similar, depending on your particular BIOS), and set it to On. (To toggle between the possible BIOS settings, look for some indicator on the BIOS screen explaining how. It's usually the PageUp/PageDown keys, +/- keys, or sometimes the space bar.)

That will turn the NumLock to whatever status (On or Off) you select every time you boot up the computer.

I usually set this in the BIOS like in # 2's answer. To enter the BIOS is usually the Delete key on older PC's, Dell's are F2. When it shows at the beginning, it flies by very quickly. The option is usually called "numlock" in the BIOS. Change it by page up or page down and you will want the On setting.
HTH.

In your config.sys file all you have to do is add the line "numlock=on". Then next time your PC boots up you numlock will come one. Simple and Painless!
