NW5 SP# & Patch Recommendations

By BarryVG ·
If you've noted my previous threads, we have a NW5 server. Finally able to determine that this is an OS only system. There are no service packs or patches loaded. System has been running for about a year now. Due to licensing problems, we feel necessary to load the licensing update, which requires at least SP2. Have SP3 being sent by outside agency, downloading SP5 ourselves. Can we start with SP3, then do the licensing update, finishing with SP5? Or is there a suggested process. Noted other users having problems with different packs. Want to clear up our problems with logging in to the base five user level, and add-in the additional five users. System is not on=line now, so can play for a bit. Appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks for any and all input

NW5 SP# & Patch Recommendations

I am assuming you are referring to NLS when you speak of your previous problems. If this is so I would not mess with SP3. We have 5 NetWare servers and had some 'side effects' from SP3. However, SP4 proved to be acceptable overall.

We have just installed SP5 on a duplicate server system (2 weeks ago) and are still testing it's effects. All in all it appears fairly docile at this point. So, if you're confident in your backups, (also doesn't hurt if the server can be offline for extended testing) you may just want to take the plunge and give SP5 a shot instead of messing around with prior releases.

NW5 SP# & Patch Recommendations

Yes, the NLS is the problem area. I would assume that all NetWare service packs are 'inclusive' of previous packs and provide correction for those prior packs? I've had this experience with the NT side. We've been able to sideline the server, by moving functions to other units. It's our only NetWare server and we're not really wanting to take it out completely, as the up-time is definately better than our other units. Thanks for the input
