Ofc2000 requires CD to make changes

By williecrosby ·
Am I beserk or did Microsoft do it to us (again)? I started a new job & inherited a stack of unidentified MSOfc CDs. When a user wants to make a simple change, the MS installer wants the original CD. Is there a way around this? How are you guys handling this?

There are not many work arounds, when it comes to getting organized on a new job,try locating any back-up software or materials, that can be identified and then labeling and setting up a system to identify all material,a time consuming effort is to get a machine that can be used to load the disk and view contents.I donot think there is much of a work around to help.good luck on the new J.O.B.

You can always browse to a network share that has a copy of the cd to do any upgrades down the road (Not like Ofc97 where you had to edit the .stf file) Once you have steered it there is will find it on subsequent changes.

You should also be able to revert back to dos, make a new directory call it Office2 or something like that. Use xcopy32 with the /s/e switches.

Those installs were done either from a network mapping which is no longer available or locally using the cd.
I suggest installing the cd to a network drive, map the user to that drive, and then running setup from that users system, which in turn will update the stf file.

I do a custom install, and manually select ALL possible options. It takes an extra moment or two... but is well worth it.
