Offline Files

By natebroomfield ·
I am trying to setup offline files. This is a Win2000 pro connecting to Win2000 server. Offline files work if the PC is started while disconnected from the network. If it starts connected and then the link gets broken, it will not use local versions of the files. Is there a way to correct this or is this the normal function of this feature?

You will need to contact the administrator
of the Win2000 Server and ask him or her to
enable your particular files to be viewed offline. Your administrator may or may not oblige you depending on security issues. This is a normal feature of Windows 2000 Server. Loyal Blair, MCP

That won't help. The folder are set to be available offline. They are in, in fact, but only if the PC is offline when it starts up. The problem only occurs when the connection is broken mid-session.

control panel>folder options>offline files>advanced

Choose "notify me and begin working offline" under the "When a network connection is lost" heading. If this option is not selected, then when the computer goes offline it will not use the offline copy.
