Online data storage for small business

By completelift ·
What are some options for data storage that does not include downloading a program and allowing it to backup everything instead of what you choose? I am looking for storage with drop and drag capabilities for a reasonable amount each month. Carbonite and Mozy are both programs downloaded on your machine. Only have files not a server to backup.

Thanks

Many of the companies

that do conventional offsite data storage, such as Iron Mountain, now offer online backup services.

Since lots of businesses use Iron Mountain anyway for offsite storage of paper records or backup tapes, it might be something to consider.

online backup without downloaded program

Both programs mentioned are backup everything usually with a program downloaded so you can restore desktop, applications, files. I was hoping to find something that doesn't need to be downloaded. Sugarsync and Open Drive seem to be the only options. Thanks though!

Check out Backblaze

Backblaze ( http://www.backblaze.com/remote-backup-everything.html ) will back up all the data on one machine for $5/month. Set up a dedicated Windows machine and copy the files you want backed up to that machine.

You could use a windows share on the dedicated machine and just copy the files to the machine across your network, assuming you have a LAN.

If you do not have a network you would obviously need to use CDs or DVDs to transfer the files to the backup machine. Using re-writable CDs/DVDs would save you some money.

I don't know how they would feel about this kind of a setup, but you could certainly contact them and ask.

$5.00/month is pretty hard to beat.

Actually, no.

"...so you can restore desktop, applications, files."

Actually, no. From the link I put in my reply:
"Backblaze does not want to waste your bandwidth or Backblaze datacenter disk space. Thus, we do not backup your operating system, application files, or temporary internet files that are transient and would not be useful in the future."

Yes, it does need to be downloaded, but unless you don't have an internet connection (which seems unlikely) that wouldn't normally be a problem.

From what I can see SugarSync and OpenDrive do require you to download software to use their services. Were you not aware of that?

You seem to have some requirement that you have not mentioned. The services you mentioned are not strictly backup services.

What are you trying to accomplish, exactly?

I would recommend...
