    Options 176 and 242

    Hi, I am working with our voice engineers to implement Avaya IP phones at a new site. We have created the necessary DHCP scope options 176 and 242 (with TFTP server specified) for both the data and voice VLANs. However, when the phone boots, it seems to be trying to contact the TFTP server specified in option 066 instead. This option 066 is used during the workstation bootup process. My question is, could this option 066 have taken precedence over option 176 and 242?

    Option 176
    MCIPADD=12.235.120.150,MCIPPORT=1719,TFTPSRVR=12.2 35.120.217,L2Q=1,L2QVLAN=0000,VLANTEST=30

    Option 242
    MCIPADD=12.235.120.150,MCIPPORT=1719,TLSSRVR=12.23 5.120.217,HTTPSRVR=12.235.120.217,HTTPDIR=SIN,L2Q= 1,L2QVLAN=0000,VLANTEST=30

    We are using Avaya 9650 phones.

    I have to explain a little bit on the L2QVLAN=0000 portion. The DHCP is controlled by another team and the team mentioned that they have a script which will pick up the 3rd octet from the IP address subnet and put that value in the VLAN so our VLAN ID will have 3 numbers which matches the subnet’s 3rd octet.

      Try reposting this in the ‘Q&A’ forum. The ‘Discussion’ forum is for matters of general discussion, not specific problems in search of a solution. The ‘Water Cooler’ is for non-technical discussions. You can submit a question to ‘Q&A’ here:

      http://www.techrepublic.com/forum/questions/post?tag=mantle_skin;content

      There are TR members who specifically seek out problems in need of a solution. Although there is some overlap between the forums, you’ll find more of those members in ‘Q&A’ than in ‘Discussions’ or ‘Water Cooler’.

      Be sure to use the voting buttons to provide your feedback. Voting a ‘+’ does not necessarily mean that a given response contained the complete solution to your problem, but that it served to guide you toward it. This is intended to serve as an aid to those who may in the future have a problem similar to yours. If they have a ready source of reference available, perhaps won’t need to repeat questions previously asked and answered. If a post did contain the solution to your problem, you can also close the question by marking the helpful post as “The Answer”.
