OS won't start and ctrl f11 doesn't do anything...

By milzticket ·
About a week ago my dell vostro 1500 laptop went down. My OS(XP) won't start up. The real kick is I don't have a working CD rom drive. At this point I'd like to restore my system but, the control f11 does not do anything( and yes i've tried pushing those two keys many different ways). Does anyone know what I can do other that order a new cd rom drive and do it by cd?I've also gone to the dark side trying to make a bootable usb flash drive with PEbuilder, but that hasn't been a success, and i'm not sure if thats even the right rode to take. PLEASE HELP IF YOU HAVE INFO

You can get a External cd/dvd drive and try that...

An external cd/dvd drives are pretty cheap so try that option first and see if it helps.

Sorry i didn't mention that.. I have a usb external disk drive and the computer doesn't recognize it in the set up as a usb devise or cd/dvd drive. It does on the other hand recognize a flash drive.

If your DSR partition still exists, this may get you where you need to be.

You will need a working floppy for this procedure.
