Other file sharing protocols besides FTP

By quanl ·
Does anyone know of any other file sharing protocols besides FTP and HTTP. OR better yet does anyone know of a program that allows you to set up a server and administer users to that server for file sharing purposes. Something like a more robust version of Napster. Thanks for any help you can provide.

TFTP, FTP's cousin. The difference is TFTP uses UDP packets instead of UDP packets. TFTP is often used with Firmware or Router Flash updates. TFTP has a drawback in that it provides no security as far as logon, but its fast and efficient. You can download a free copy of TFTP from the web, search for TFTP and you should find a few varietys. I wouldnt be surprised if Napster didnt use TFTP on a different port number.

What system are you using? Wouldn't something like SSH be suitable in this respect? It would be secure if that's what you're looking for.
