I am getting the error included below, although I can ping by name and ip the mail
server, this W2K laptop is part of the same
domain as the exchange 5.5 server.
"The microsoft exchange address book was unable to log on to the ms exchange server
computer. Contact your net admin."

Your problem more then likely is not related to DNS or IP, its more then likely Netbios related. Outlook looks for the Netbios name of the exchange 5.5 server. Check your WINS address's, your exchange server that its registering its name with WINS and finaly you can always put in an LMHOSTS entry for your Exchange 5.5 server..

Check if youre address book points to the right one (the exchange one)
Start settings control panel, mail, third tab (adressing) and check the settings there, make sure they point to your public address book.

Good luck.
