Outlook 2000 on network and modem

By Seadogs ·
We have a user who has been setup to use Outlook 2000 on his modem. Previously he was using it on the network with a 100 MB card. Now he can no longer send email to anyone outside the office when he is connected to the network. Within the office he is able to send email. Is there some setting that can be turned on and off that will tell outlook to use the network only or the modem only? He is set up on the exchange server and internet email. Thanks for your help.

The only way to do this is to set up different Outlook profiles. Set up one profile that includes Exchange and his normal office email settings to send Internet mail through the LAN. Then set up another profile with just his other Internet mail account (the only that is using the modem to dial out). Don't include his Exchange mailbox in this profile. NOTE - of course, he will need to use a .pst for his second Outlook profile; the mail will be received locally on his computer and will not show in his Exchange mailbox. Unless you do this, Outlook doesn't know which account to use when it tries to send external email, and the mail just never gets delivered. Hope this helps!

Something may have gotten fouled up in the switchover. If your Exchange Server is configured with to support Internet Mail, then what you need to do lies in Outlook. In Outlook go to the Tools menu and select Services. In the box, select Microsoft Exchange Server and click Remove. Click OK and then close Outlook. When you open Outlook again it will prompt you to setup Outlook for mail connection. Make sure you select "Corporate/Workgroup" and then complete the install with the name of theExchange server and the users mailbox name. That will install the Exchange server support from the ground up. Then you should be set.
