For 200 points I'll give you the quick and dirty way...

Take another hard drive and install xp on it. Put your old hdd back on - xcopy all your data from the old drive (the one that's not getting past splash) to the new drive with the fresh install of XP. Confirm the copy. Take new drive off with your backed up data - reload XP. Now search your backed up data for *.pst and you'll find your outlook goodies. I always keep mine in the my docs dir - makes life easier when you are going through what you are going through.

don't sweat it. try booting in Safe Mode? tap f8 key while cold booting, hopefully you will get Start menu, pick Safe Mode.
your mail should be in Application Data folder of your profile. this is hidden? let's say you logon to your computer as MaryJo. so your mail would be stored in C:\Documents and Settings\MaryJo\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst

Plain and simple:

In Outlook go to File => Import & Export. This will bring up the Import 7 Export Wizqard. Click on Export to a file. Then click on Personal Folder File. Then at the top of the Select Folder to Export from selet "Mailbox - User Name". Check the boc to include subfolders. Folow the rest of the prompts. This will create a PSt file that has copies of all your Outlook items (Calendar, Contacts, Email and everything!)

contacts and sent items will be all there in the pst file. have you tried booting with the XP recovery console? see support.microsoft.com for more information. search mskb for 'recovery console'

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

This is the location on my computer. I stay logged in as the administrator.

If you hook up the drive as a slave. Do a seatch for *.pst. There will be one or two files.
