Outlook doesnt send mail

By jallard ·
Hi,
Outlook97 - Win95 - sometimes outlook will not send out the mail or some of the mail! - when checking for new mail, some of the items in the outbox will go out and some will not - any ideas on what might cause this aberration?

TIA

JimA

Are you running Wan,Lan,Remote, but I will assume modem. That is your modem losing communications. Make sure you have your server types addressed correctly in the dail up adapter. Go to my computer and then dial up networking, right click and go to properties and under the server type tab make sure you have the correct protocols selected. Or it could be a modem driver problem. Really need more info on what you setup is.

One reason this happens is caused by you opening or viewing (via the preview pane add in) messages in your Outbox. They will never be sent. This is pretty much a bug, but there has never been a fix for it. This applies regardless of mail transport (Exchange or SMTP/POP3)

This will happen if you open an item in the outbox after it is already there before sending. Outlook marks this as read instead of ready to send. If this is the problem, right click on the message and select send or re-send. This should re-set the message as ready to send and outlook will take it from there.

Some users on my network have more than one E-Mail account. There have been times when users received E-Mail under one of their accounts, and then for some reason lost access to that account and could not send out replies until access to the account was reestablished. All other mails would be sent normally.

A similar thing happened to users who imported mail from another account and then tried to reply to the messages.

One of the features in Outlook is to gather e-mail from several accounts. E-mail servers at most ISPs (Internet Service Providers) will allow you to gather e-mail from other providers. When you "reply", outlook uses the address that the e-mail wasreceived under and ISPs will not allow you to send e-mail through them as another person.
THE FIX: When ready to send, don't click the SEND button, click FILE, SEND USING and select the ISP you are currently logged into. Outlook will automatically fix the FROM.
