Outlook Express

By jandagold ·
I am running oulook express ver.6. I recently have encountered a problem. When I click on oulook to open it, my screen displays the following message in a "Run As" box. "Which user account do you want to use to run this program?"
It then lists current user (myself) along with a "protect my computer and data from unauthorised program activity" ticked statement and gives me the option of other user also. As I am the only user I tick current user and ok. The opening box for outlook express then breifely flashes on my screen, but will not open. Yet only that morning I accessed it with no problem. I had not done any program changes, updates, etc between the first time I used outlook and the second time that day, but I now cannot access it. I have virus checked, defragged, scandisked and performed a system restore and have contacted my server to ask advice in an attempt to fix the problem. I have also attempted to reinstall Internet Explorer and Outlook Express, but my computer states that as I already have a newer version running that it cannot reinstall. Any suggestions? Thanks.

You say you are clicking on Outlook. Is it Outlook or Outlook Express? They are 2 different programs. Also, try unticking the unauthorized statement and/or setting your user to Administrative. Also, did you happen to rename your account name? Windows changes your name for viewing and typing it in, but it does not change your folder names which I have seen cause problems.

I have already tried all of the above to no avail.

Does the shortcut you are using have 'RunAs' credentials?
Right click the icon you are using to start the program, Select the Shortcut tab, click Advanced and untick the box marked 'Run with different credentials'.

Your answer solved one of my problems. After having outlook express, outlook and hotmail(msn) all show the same problems, I fully scanned my hard drive with antivirus software. It turns out I had a bad case of "W32.Netsky.C" virus that hadn't been picked up before. Once my hard drive was clean, my outlook, outlook express and hotmail all work again. Thanks for your help.
