Outlook on w2k and Office XP

By dennis.rees ·
I recently upgraded my OS from ME to w2k and now experience a problem doing a lookup against my Address Book contacts in Outlook. I am using Office XP Pro. We outsource Exchange Server and I have all my folders, including my Address Book on the server. I can get to the Address Book from the Outlook folder panel, but when I hit To: and choose Address Book/Contacts when composing mail, the list is empty. Seems to me it's looking for a local Address Book, but I can't find a place where that might be configured. Does anyone know if there is a way to specify the location of the Address Book post install?

In addition, I was told by the Exchange outsourcer to uninstall and reinstall Outlook but can't find a way to do that without uninstalling all of Office. Does anyknow know how to uninstall/reinstall Outlook with the w2k/Office XP Pro combo?

Thanks in advance for any advise you can provide.

Dennis

Uninstall Outlook by going to Add Remove Programs in the Control Panel and select Microsoft Office.
Now click the Change button. Then Add or Remove Features and you'll find Outlook.

First, make sure you have the Outlook Address Book service installed in your Email profile.

Next, right-click on the Contacts folders that contain your address book and choose Properties. Go to the Outlook Address Book tab and ensure the box labeled "Show this folder as an email Address Book" is checked.

That should solve your problem.

In Outlook, go to Tools Services. Check that you have Outlook Address Book and Personal Address Book installed. Under properties for each, check that the path points to the correct address book name and location.

We experienced a similar problem in our network when we migrated users without fully recreating their Outlook MAPI profiles.

Remove the Outlook Address Book from your Outlook profile and add it back in. Then your contacts will be repopulated for email addressing.
