I have been looking for information to configure Outlook for interoffice email on a peer-to-peer network . All I can find is internet or server related. Internet email is provided through a third party. Any advise or recommendations are welcomed.

To my knowledge, there is no way to configure Outlook in a peer-to-peer network. You must use Exchange Server (or other server backend) or Internet Email.

You can use a Microsoft WorkGroup Postoffice that is included with Windows 95. However, once you upgrade to Outlook 2000 (or 95, or 97 for that matter) you lose the ability to create and/or administer a postoffice. There are tools available from MS for administering MSMail postoffices on the Internet which should solve this problem. Once you have your PO in place, you use the MS Mail service when Outlook 2000 is configured for Corporate/Workgroup mode.

      That’s it.

YES, it works like a CHARM. This works on peer workgroups and on server/client and on NT or Novell. Create a WGPO (work group post office) on one selected computer. This will be where all outlook users will have the post office and mailboxes inside the postoffice. Next, get two control panel files from microsoft named WGPOCPL and WGPOADMIN.DLL and copy them to c:\windows\system or wherever windows is installed on your computer. This will add a postoffice icon in control panel and allow you to add/delete post office mail boxes for your users. Now, in every Outlook goto to tools, then services and add Microsoft mail. Then it will ask you for the post office loacation. Browse for it where you created it. You can put it on the root of that selected computer. Next enter the user name and password for the user mailbox you created in postoffice in the control panel. That’s it! There are some other settings like instant notification, remote mail, etc. You can try different settings. Just save and exit outlook and re-enter outlook and you should now be connected to the post office mail box. If you didn’t click to save password, it will ask you for it, just enter it. This works on win95, win98, NT, even client32 for novell workstations. If you have other questions, email me or let me know somehow.
