Outlook Profile shared among ALL USERS

By troy ·
Quick question - anyone know how to create a default mail profile in Windows NT that all users will use? In other words, if a person who has never logged on to the machine logs on, his/her profile is created, then he/she opens up Outlook, it's already configured to go to a specific mailbox (i.e. outlook profile is already in place).

I realize this means all users will be going to the same mailbox, and this is what I want. It's for a special purpose project, and not for everyday email use- I'm not crazy! :)

Thanks in advance,
-Troy

I am sure if this is what you are looking for. If you are using Exchange server you can set up users to open other mailboxes. It is under Tools=>services=>microsoft exchange =>advance => add the mailbox. We use this for mail that is address to HR,HELPDESK,ect. or you might look into public folders, or network folders.

Thanks for the try, but what I'm looking for is for the Outlook profile to be already in place when a new user logs into NT, rather than that new user having to step through the exchange server/mailbox selection process. Basically, the equivalent of placing an installed app into the "All Users" section of the start menu. It's there even if it's your first time logging on...

We have a similar situation in one of our training labs. The solution we use is a program called Profile Maker. www.autoprof.com It has saved us a lot of time and it is really easy to configure and use. After you configure it, you can place it inthe startup folder for all users so that it will run automatically after the user has logged in.

Why not set a single default roaming profile that anyone can use say called User. If this is set up properly with a NT group with just this user in Then you can set machine permissions to this group without compromising anyone's access. This is a method I use for setting up Training exercises where I need mailbox access on a temporary basis and the trainees and trainer are looking at a common model.
Hope this helps

The info is stored in the users roaming or local WINNT/Win2K profile. You could try logging in as a new user on a machine and configure outlook to point to the exchange account you want it to default to. Then log out and come back in under admin access and copy the newly created profile data to the default user profile. I know that when a new user logs in to the machine it will create thier profile based on the config of the default user profile. (Keep a backup of the old default profile in case it dodn't do what you want it to do).

Good luck!

You'll have to grant them access to the mailbox like stated before so exchange will grant them access when they try check thier mail.
