Outlook2K Deployment

By rbakos ·
I'm working on deploying Outlook 2k to about 150 clients that run NT4sp5. I've got the install script to work - just as long as the user is an administrator.

I've looked at the obvious options (su.exe, etc) but I'd like to avoid installing an extra service on the machines if I can. SMS and the like just arent options at this time either.

Anyone come up with a good workaround for this problem?

Thanks alot,

Rob

To deploy anything you have a few options. You can use a complete deployment solution and drop an O/S with all apps on using a product such as ImageCast IC3 (excellent tool). I would recommend going that route if you were staging a large O/S migragion in the next year. Using ImageCast coupled with a Desktop DNA would complete a great total migration solution.

If you just want to focus on Outlook 2000 and nothing else, an excellent tool for Application deployment is called Picture Taker. This will allow for you to execute what is known as a change file. PictureTaker will embed Outlook into your current O/S saving a whole bunch of time. You could probably applay a change file of Outlook in about 3 minutes. This could be automated by a script or run by login script.

Running the installation script and installing an application is great for a home user, but for an IT professional, you shouldn't have to suffer like that.
