Overloaded with acquired offices

By kimlyn ·
I am an network admin. asst. with no time and just had a project dumped in my lap and I need HELP! My company just aquired 10 more remote sales offices in major cities with 12 users remotely performing 40% of thier work 60% of the time (sales). I currently have a RAS supporting 10 users (outside sales people)on a 1-800 line with a 8-modem hunt group. All remote users require access to internal databases and files. Support large file transfers between offices. Have a central administration point.
Any suggestions on how I can start to make this work for a reasonable amount so that all sales people have the same services and can all connect to the network at the same time.

Overloaded with acquired offices

Disclaimer: I'm a developer, not a network guy, but...

The last 2 clients locations I've had contracts at were moving away from RAS and going to a VPN (virtual private network) solution. One set it all up internally, the other out-sourced it to the local telcom company. The out-sourcing solution will be more expensive in the long run, but easier and faster to get running. Doing it internally will eventually be cheaper, but you'll need a specialist to build it for (with) you, and you'll need some potentially expensive hardware up front.

And make sure that it works with DSL or cable modems from employees' home locations! I know of one out-sourcing company whose VPN client won't work with Win2k over DSL (my case), and doing these things over a 56K line is horrible (and you never get a 56K connection, do you...).
