Password Policies are Locked down

By trobison ·
I was under the impression in windows 2003 that the Administrator could change everything. It appears that this is false becuase when I go in to change the local machine policies, they setings are greyed out...and cant be changed. There is a lock icon on the floders as well.

Are you logged into a Domain computer? Or locally? If the computer is part of a domain, then you need to log into the computer as an Enterprise Domain Administrator...

If that isn't helping, then what is it that you are trying to change... some of the security settings have been juggled around in 2003...

HERE IS THE FIX !! PASSWORD POLICY ISSUE

by slipdipidis1975 In reply to Password Policies are Loc ...

The issue is with Group Policy, Group trumps Local... but what if you don't have access to the Active Directory/Group Policy server. Well there is a simple fix for this, but you at least have to have the permissions to join/unjoin computers from the domain. Unjoin from the domain, log in locally, then change the password option in local policy, then re-join the domain... I promise it works.
