PC reboot by itself

By cshanyee ·
I've this pc which is running Win98 always reboot by itself several times every morning. The pc will keep on rebooting until it is able to boot up in safe mode. If you restart the pc again from safe mode, then Win98 is able to boot up. Subsequent later, if you try to restart the pc again, it will restart without giving you any problem.

The problem occur only when the pc "rest" for too long.

I've changed the VGA card, LAN card and even update the latest bios but still doesn't help much.Pls advise.

Check your power supply, and the connections to the MB. Also if you have a soft on switch, check that..
Make sure the MB is not grounding itself to the case.

Sounds to me like you have an intermitant power supply problem. Keeping in mind that Windows is booting up in safe mode because of the incomplete boot up OR the improper shut down that the computer is doing.
Power supplies can have various problemsand can act ok for a while, the start giving problems without any notice. Depending on the component failure, it seems as though your power supply may have a cracked resistor in it, which can make and break contact, depending on the temperature in the power supply itself.
Power supplies are cheap enough, therefore I don't suggest trying to service it, as there are components that store electicity in the power supply, even when the unit is unplugged.
Be sure to get the appropriate wattage supply, keeping in mind not only what the computer manufacturer recommends, but also all the add ons that you may have installed yourself.Good Luck.....REF.

This might be the effect of the power management. You can try to disable the powermanagements facility.
go to
start-setting-control panel
in control panel look for power management.
change the entities to never. It might help.

There isn't a point for you to look at the bios as the operating system have supercede/ took control of the command in the above power management that i am referring to.
Gd luck!

This has nothing to do with the power managements facility.

PC reboot by itself

I have had a simular situation with several pc's either hanging or rebooting all the time. The pc's were all the same with the same parts (built pc's). A friend also told me posible power supply or one of the parts. I knew it wasn't any of those but interchanged parts and power supply anyway. While I was doing all that, I felt that the hard drives were running extremly hot. Good HDs but hot. Excessive heat can hang or reboot a pc. I bought $5.oo internal fans that goes either in the front or the back ends of the inside of the pc. That fixed all the problems.

I don't think the problem is due to overheating. This is because it will only happen after the pc shutdown totally and boot up after 2 to 3 hours later. Any other suggestion as I need help desperately. Thanks.
