    PCI Early Non-VGA Device

    Locked

    by rallynut ·

Have a Dell Latitude with Windows 98. Trying to install a Xircom RealPort CardBus Ethernet 10/100 + Modem 56. When I insert the Xircom, W98 detects a “PCI Early Non-VGA Device” and it fails to find the driver (The Xircom CD is in the CD-ROM drive).Naturally, the Xircom is not working at all.

    Any ideas?

Go back and rinstall the ethernet settings in network control panel, then do a manual install of the device, there has been other problems with Xircom compatibility with the bus controllers. This may put you on the dright track

Reserve IRQ 5 in the BIOS setup; CardBus tries to use IRQ 5 by default, but so do many sound devices and PCI steering might be ‘bumping’ that card into an occupied or unsharable IRQ assignment before Windows even gets a look at it. Uninstall the card, drivers and all, from the system and reserve the IRQ before attempting a reinstall.

its very posible that the modem is in resources conflict with any dispositive of the pc. try freeing resources in the bios
disabling the com2 and not asigning irq to
usb (if this is not in use) or the vga
      (if it supports)

      sorry for my badenglish 🙂
