Permission problems on IIS

By ann ·
I am running an IIs server hosting 5 websites.

The sites are all runing fine execpt for one.
Suddenly the server extentions have no write permission to a file. I checked C:\inetpub\www.mysite.com and I can't change the permissions on all the files for that website. As an administrator It comes out access denied to a lot of the files.

Please help

2 possibilitites
1) Through whatever method in place to upload content to the website the uploader has set permissions on the files and removed everyone access. You will need to take ownership of the tree as administrator and reset to desired permissions.

2)The user accounts on this server is different than the others. The tree now has a unknown sid as the owner with no one having access rights. Again take ownership with local or domain administrator rights and reset permissions.

We had this happen when a user running NT moved file up to the server that had permissions locked down and it kept permissions on the server.

The IIS web service will keep some files open (mostly DLLs), resulting in the access denied error when even the Admin tries to change these files. Simply stopping the specific web site isn't enough. You must stop the web service and sometimes even the web admin service. Once the service that had the file opened is stopped, you should be able to delete or change the file. Be sure to start the services back up.
