Philisophical Differences

By dhohls ·
The whole tables vs CSS debate is more than just an argument over which provides "better/easier control" or has more features/benefits. Its about a deeper philosophy or level of understanding of the web as not just another flashy advertising mediumfor companies (big or small), but something with the long-term potential to store useful and usable information. http://www.alistapart.com/stories/dao/article.html discusses this at length.

The article from from Apple ( http://developer.apple.com/internet/css/introcsslayout.html ) presents a very balanced viewpoint on pros/cons of using CSS, along with the "principle of the separation of structure and presentation".

If you don't agree with the basic philosophies expounded very clearly by these authors then, sure, stick to whatever "quick and dirty" method gives you the results you need - and remain at the mercy of large companies, with vested interests in making their products/approaches the "standard".
