Picky CDRom

By yvonne ·
I was at a friend's house trying to load some software for them. The CDRom would not "see" any of my disks! It would "see" the disks they had there in the house, but not mine. The operating system is Windows 95 and I have been able to load software from these disks several times to many computers before. Any ideas why this one is so picky?

Are these CD's that you burned yourself?
It's possible that the way you created them may not be compatable with all systems.
For example, when I burn a CD using my HP CD-R and thier DLA software on my WIN 2000 system, I cannot read the CD's in myWIN95 system.

What are the sizes of the cdr's?

Some of the older hardware will not "see" any cdrs ; some will only see the 640 MB ones.

It may also have to have a "closed" session on the cd (ie. no more writes can be done to it).

Re: Your comment: I have used these CD's many times in Windows 95 and Windows 98 machines. I have even loaded one or two of these same CD's on this particular machine in the past.

Then I would suspect that the cd-rom drive in her computer is beginning to fail. Just behaving inconsistently right now. Have you cleaned the lens inside (with a cd-rom drive cd) or blown it out with a can of air? You can try and see if that helps. Otherwise, the only other thing I can suggest is replacing that drive.
