Sorry to throw 2 questions in here but theyre both pretty simple so i figured someone will know both answers. I seem to remember a way to do a broadcast ping or ping a subnet in order to recieve a reply from all active IP’s (in windows) is it a function of the ping command or something else.
    2. Isnt ther a way to set sub-interfaces in windows( 2 Ips on one NIC) I know its very simple on a cisco router and even easier in linux. I know ive done it once upon a time in WIndows ( i think through cmd?) Anyone know?

You may be thinking of some network utility that can scan a subnet. There are a number of them, some of them free.

You can assign a second IP address in Windows by selecting the Properties of the TCP/IP protocol of the network connection and then Advanced – IP Settings – IP Address – Add.

yeah i thought it was probably in those ip settings, just was thinking there was some kind of ipconfig command that did it.
with the ping, I know ive used the ping command with some kind of switch, like a broadcast ping that will cause all nics in that broadcast domain to reply. This could have been in linux also. I know theres several little discovery progs out there but its nice to have a quick cmd line to find em if your already in it.
