Platform independent firewall

I am a student of computer engineering.I heard that you in some web-site.

I have been assigned a project on "PLATFORM INDEPENDENT FIREWALL" at the colleg.Since the software should be platform independent I had chosen JAVA as the programming language.

So would you Please guide me in project.

hi,
perhaps u should take a look att those hardware firewall appliance which is not running on top of those know OS like linux, unix, windows....

example would be NetScreen, PIX .. ...

just some thoughts..

Not for nothing,

but I personally would never use a java based firewall.

As far as platform independant firewalls, I think the closest thing out there are the ipfwadm/ipchains/iptables brand.

They will run on multiple flavors of linux.

But if you are talking about a java console that can write rules, then look at BBIAgent.com it is based on iptables and uses the linux 2.4 kernel as it's platform. It uses a java app to configure it. But it is not "java" based
