portal product selection with a content

By bradburyn ·
we are looking at using microsoft's cms 2001 for internet web sites , I am wondering as we need to have personalisation as well as "myservices" on the internet web site as well , does sharepoint portal fit the bill. From what I have seen it is mainly a document ,search systems for intranet purposes only. Should I look at maybe Plumtree for"community" based portals on the internet?.

Many Thanks for your time.

On Sharepoint:
Our work has implemented Sharepoint for an intranet portal about a month ago. It seems to have a handful of services that it offers, and while they're customizeable, they're also just a handful; that is, past the several different types of components they offer for a page (links list, discussion board, document list, etc.), you have nothing else to work with.

The other issue was logging in using any browser other than Internet Explorer. I'm not completely sure about how it'shandled, but I beleive the encryption isn't as safe as it is in IE. All I know is people have had problems using Netscape or Mozilla; you may want to check that out too.

I wasn't responsible for making the Sharepoint site happen, so I can't offerthat perspective. All I can say is it does work, but shop around first, and good luck.
