Power Adapter not charging

By shygirl3550 ·
Hi, I have a laptop and the power adapter is plugged in but no longer charging the computer. I can get it to work once in a while if i mess around with the plug but once i move the laptop it instantly stops charging again. Does anyone know what's wrong? Is it the laptop or the adapter?

Connection

by TheChas In reply to Power Adapter not chargin ...

Hello, fellow Wyoming resident.

1 of 2 things is happening.

Either the solder connections for the power jack inside the laptop have fractured.

Or, the wires in the adapter plug have fractured.

The plug on the end of the cord is easy to check if you have and know how to use a volt meter.

You can also inspect it. If the wire near the plug has been bent over at a sharp angle, or the wire is very flexible at the plug, then you just need a new plug on the adapter.

There have also been reports of the jack on some laptops just wearing out.

There are at least 2 places you can take your laptop and adapter too and see if they will take a quick look at it and give you a repair estimate.

One is GPC on 29th between Lake Eastbrook and Broadmore.
The other is PC Outlet just West of Ivanrest on 28th.

I'm sure that there are more options. Those are just the ones off the top of my head.

REPLY TO POWER ADAPTER NO CHARGING

by wishielaine In reply to Power Adapter not chargin ...

MY SISTER'S DELL GOT THE SAME PROBLEM JUST RECENTLY AND THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE POWER ADAPTER CORD, I.E., THE WIRE IS BROKEN IN TWO PLACES, WHERE WIRE CONNECTS TO THE THE PLUG AND THE OTHER WHERE THE WIRE MEETS THE SMALL CYLINDER ON THE POWER CORD (AFTER THE ADAPTER). I HAD IT RECONNECTED BY A TECHNICIAN AND THE LAPTOP POWERS ON. ONE PROBLEM THOUGH, THE LAPTOP WAS NOT USED FOR ABOUT 7 MONTHS BECAUSE THERE IS NO AVAILABLE POWER ADAPTER AND MY SIS FORGOT TO REMOVE THE BATTERY. HOPE THIS HELPS.

the Adapter plue

by raul In reply to Power Adapter not chargin ...

the problem may comes from your laptop adapter's plug. check that whether it is inseparably close to your laptop's connector,if not, change the plug for your adapter, buy a right plug, it may work better

charger problem

by mrd3247 In reply to Power Adapter not chargin ...

i have a gateway laptop and for the longest time i thought it was my laptop... but today i figured out it's the chargers
i had gotten a charger from circut city, it started with a K... and it gave me that problem
a friend of mine has the same laptop and he got a different brand of charger from best buy and he has the same problem
so i think there's a problem with gateway laptops and the charger converters made for them
i'm stressing out over this situation so bad today! because it's so frustrating when it won't charge!!

Sounds like a faulty connection..

Get another laptop charger and try that.
If not then it could be the internal connection plug that is going. Get it repaired at a good computer shop.

Please post back if you have any more problems or questions.
If this information is useful, please mark as helpful. Thanks
