Preventing logon to Winnt4 domain

By gary ·
How is it possible to prevent WinNT4 wkstn users from logging onto a domain more than once with the same username?
Can it be done with policy, scripts, wsh, or other? If so could you give me pointers on how to do this. Non-winnt apps are not an option, and manual administrator intervention won't get you the points :-)

You can go into the User Manager for Domains and in each users properties set what station they can logon to. The would have the transitive effect that they wouldn't be able to log on more then once, unless you allowed them to long onto more then one machine.

Allright!
Get down to write some code. You can use feature where u can extract the login event from the eventlog in the security log section on the PDC. When the user logs in, check to see if the event log has an entry for logged in/out. If the user is logged in, issue the command Logout.exe from the login script.
Of course, the security auditing has to be enabled on the domain. This process could slow down the login process for all users.
More information on this can be found in the Microsoft Article ID:189541. This lists event ids for account lock outs. You can easily identify the event ids for successful logons as well.

Happy coding!!

A simple way I have used in the past is to setup a share with the user's login id and then only allow one connection to this share. I picked on the HOME directory for this. The login script can check to see if the share is in use. If it is then the script can run the lofoff command from the RESKIT. Be nice and leave a message telling the individual what happened :-)

ITs not possible. What you can do is allow the users to only logon to one workstation by defining what computer name they can logon to in user manager for domains.
