Print in DOS

By info ·
Hi:

I have a NT 4.0 server with 7 workstations (4 windows 98 and 3 windows NT workstation 4.0). One printer is connected to the windows 98 workstation. There is a DOS application running on all the workstations. My question is how can I print from DOS from NT workstation to the printer on windows 98 workstation? I tried NET USE but I get message error 67. If you have any suggestion I would appreciate it.

Thanks
Moe

first thing is to set the shared printer up on your pc. you know add new printer, select network printer then find the printer on your network. after you install the driver on your nt machine then the printer is setup.
then go into to properties onthat printer then go to the ports tab and at the bottom make sure "the enable printer pooling" is checked. then go up where you select the port and put a check on the lpt1 box. so now you are pooling the lpt1 and the shared printers ports.
then go into your dos program and set it to print to lpt1 and see if that works

There's no GUI in NT to do this. You had the right idea though. The command is "net use lptx \\server\printer /persistent:yes" where x will be replaced by the port #.
