Print Option Box in PDF takes a long time to Open

By MKRives ·
I have a user who is running MS XP with Office 2003. When you opens a PDF file, small or large, and hits the Print option or File\Print, the Print Box takes over 2 minutes to come up for him to select his printer. He has Adobe 9 installed. I would not think this was a print driver issue since the delay comes before he even selects a printer. Any thoughts?

Couple of thoughts:

by robo_dev In reply to Print Option Box in PDF t ...

Is this a lan printer or local printer?

Does it do the same thing with lan cable unplugged?

Reinstalled Adobe 9?

Tried a different version of Adobe reader?

Does the user have any printers installed that do not exist (especially LAN-based printers)?

If you change the default printer in Windows to another printer, is the result the same?

What is the processor utilization percentage when he does this?

In general, my guess would be that either the Adobe reader app is hosed, the user has a corrupt printer driver and/or a defined printer that no longer exists. Or the PC registry has some corruption of some sort.

Print as image........

by ThumbsUp2 In reply to Print Option Box in PDF t ...

We've had the same thing happen. The solution was to set Adobe to print documents as an image.

From within Adobe itself, open a PDF. Select File > Print, then click the Advanced button near the bottom left. Inside, click the checkbox which says Print as Image, then click ok and OK again to print.

Once this is turned on, it should remain turned on for that particular printer. So, you may need to turn it on again if you select a different printer for the next document.

Resolved: Offline Network Printer

by MKRives In reply to Print as image........

Yesterday I went back and looked at all of the printers he had added and found one that was no longer online. So, I deleted that network printer and now the PDF's print in a matter of seconds.

I had a user experiencing the same problem. After removing her offline printers, she was able to print PDFs with no problem. Thank you!
