Print Server doesn't work on some drops.

By galbin ·
We have several HP Printers with build in NIC that will not work in two offices but will work in our lab. All drops are connected to the same server through the same hub. Also we have a new computer that will not hit the server on these drops but wecan connect an older computer. The new computer will work fine on other drops. We get a light on the hub and the NIC but can not hit the Netware Server.

Several assumptions here, based on the fact that you say the Newer stuff doesn't work, but the older stuff does ( in the office ).

It sounds like the cabling installed in the office area is not up to full cat-5e standards, and is only using 1 or2 pairs of the cable. If this is the case, you're probably going to need a cabling contractor to upgrade, which can get expensive.

Another option is to force your NIC cards to operate at 10mps half duplex. The HP's you can configure either through Jetadmin or via the web interface. The Desktop NIC's ususally came with a dos based configuration program.

Worst case scenario is if you are running the office areas on Cat-2 cabling. It suffices for bare-bones 10mps ethernet, but barely.

e-mail me direct if you need some specific help on this one
