Print Spooler not starting

By NateH ·
Hi all,

This is a problem I have noticed on multiple platforms: WinXP, Win2000 Server, and Win2000 Pro. And all are different locations, different customers.

At random times I have noticed that several of my clients complained that when they went to print, they received an error message that there were no printers installed. Upon inspection I found that the print spooler was not running. I manually went in and restarted it and all was well again.

I made sure that the properties specified that the service restart upon failure but this still happens every so often and I don't see any reason or problem that may be causing it.

Anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

thank you

Nate

This might not help much but here it goes.

Some applications use printing differently than windows intends. Often this causes a conflict with windows and causes the spooler to stop. I would see what apps are commonly used before the error occurs. In other words, the clients last successful print job.
