printer and mouse freeze

By Chester Peterson ·
My friend has a celeron 1000, 128mb, 20gb, win ME, and his printer and mouse keep jamming and he has to reboot.
Any ideas?

Hi,

It could be the IRQ (Interrupt Request Queue) settings. Check the IRQ settings for the mouse and the printer, they may be set to the same queue.

Andy

Hi,

I haven't got a lot of hands-on experience with ME, please excuse the web links.

First right click "My Computer" - Properties - Device Manager and double click Computer.
That will tell you all the IRQ assignments for your devices.

Thencheck these articles for more information on IRQ's in WinME:-

If they are indeed on the same IRQ, it's also possible that one of the devices does not support IRQ Steering. The Computing.net web forum has a lot of threads regarding IRQ Steering.

I think you could check your CMOS, go to Peripherals, make sure that the parralel port is set to DEF 378 IRQ 7
If you find your sound card using this then set it to IRQ5
hope this helps
