Printer Pooling Setup

By swansondl ·
I am trying to set up printer pooling in a NT 4.0 Domain, at the server I go to printers then choose one of the printers that I want to pool the select the enable printer pooling option then select the ports I wish to pool with and say ok then exit out but it does not appear to be working. Can anyone tell me how to trouble shoot this to be sure pooling is or is not working?

First of all printer pooling works with 2 or more printers. The printers must be the same type/model with the same driver. You must define a new logical port and change in all printers properties to use this port.
Hope this help you.

About answer2:
-you can't assign to one printer more than one port
-for more printers you can assign the same port
The only way is to define a new logical port.

Please... NO "new logical ports"...

1) Connect 2 or more alike printers to your Server (does not matter which way, to LPTs, to JetDirect ports or...)
2) Add a Printer on the control panel, set roper driver), select each of the ports (one-by-one)to make sure each of the (physical) printers works through the (logical) printer you just added.
3) Select "enable printer pooling" and select all the ports where the printers are connected. From this point it should work.

In order to check -- submit a long job onto the (logical) printer. While it is "printing", submit another job -- it should print on the other (physical)printer.

Please do not forget to install SP6 first, as it corrects some of the printer pooling problems:
