Printer Sharename still exists after del

By armer.wicht ·
Hi,
i have some trouble with an W2K3 Printerserver. When i delete a printer without stopping the share and i clean the registry with all entries belong to this printer, the printershare is always visible over "net share" command. So you cannot recreate the printer with the same sharename. Stopping the Printspooler- and TCP/IP Printerserver Services does not work. Only rebooting the Server helps.
Thanks in advance

Yes, that's right. To the best of my knowledge, that's how it's supposed to work. Stop Sharing the Printer, then rename or delete it....

You should *Always* stop sharing the printer before you attempt ot rename ot delete it. You won't need to restart the system. But ensure you do stop the printer, then delete it.

HTH.
