Printing at Client site using VPN connec

Looking for a solution for the following: remote client dials local isp using 56K modem and connects to the internet and then connects to the corporate terminal server using VPN – PPTP; how can the remote client print to their local printer (LPT1) from the application(s) running in the terminal session? Printers on the network are shared and available at the terminal server once they are setup/installed. These printers are then available for the terminal server sessions. Remote client has their printer shared.

When the user logs on to Term Srvr, run a logon script to map the client printer, something like:
      NET USE LPT1: \\client_machine_name\shared_printer_name

I’m wondering whether there’s something in the client configuration itself where you can configure that?? Depends, are you using the ICA client?

I don’t know if the above post will work by the netbios name, considering you are connected via several layers (CLient, Modem, ISP, VPN, Server). If it doesn’t work, try putting a batch file on the desktop of your Terminal Server session, and place the command above, only as: NET USE LPT1: \\your_pc_ip_address\sharename_for printer

      ie..NET USE LPT1: \\165.32.86.67\MYPRINTER

Realize that you’ll need to install a printer driver on the server as well…

I done it b4, and worked.
Since your client VPN in and logs onto the network, have the user go to network neighborhood, and find the printer. Double-click on the printer and a message will pop up claiming that before using the printer, it needs to install the driver. He/she will then have an option to install it. After installations is complete, the printer becomes part of the Printers folder.
But, remember, the process may take a few minutes depending on the connection.

      Good luck!
