Printing locally on NT Terminal Server

By info ·
How can one print through a local printer connected to LPT1 while he or she is inside an NT Terminal Server session? When you're inside the session, you can only see the printer(s) connected locally to the NT machine but not the printers connected to your local machine.

You will have to share your local printer and connect to the shared printer.

We use login script with our Citrix clients:

To see local com port (say a dos app to hit a modem)
net use com1: \\client\com1:

To see a local printer port
net use lpt1: \\client\lpt1:

Leave "client" as is, do not change it to the client PC's name.

I have a script setup called METAFRM.CMD which we use as a script for users in our Metaframe group with stuff like this in it.

You can use ThinPath Plus from NCD to be able to use the local COM and LPT ports on your computer, this software is free of charge at www.ncd.com

If you are using Terminal Server by itself to remotely conect to your wokstation, I think you may be out of luck. However if you add Citrix Winframe or Meta-frame to Terminal Server, you will get afully functioning Client server setup. It allows you users to see their local drives and to print to their local printers, while in a Terminal Server session. The client printers must have NT drivers loaded on the Server first, but they will auto configure for the users as they log in. If you arenot using Citrix, you can get info on them at Citrix.com. Good luck.

You have to share the local printer on the network, and install it on the TS.
