Printing problems on Windows XP

By computerusageco ·
Upgraded Windows98 computer w/ new Dell & Windows XP Professional. Everything went relatively smooth but one application using Timberline software printing to an Okidata 393 Plus impact printer. (Old but very good impact printer) Page size has tobe set for check printing but printing slower and fonts not same size as on 98. Tried changing font size, new driver with XP, & Okidata & Epsion. Vendor no help (does not support XP etc.) Microsoft says I have the current driver & Okidata same. Timberline says that same problem exist in W2K but no solution (if you can believe that).

Printing problems on Windows XP

From the Okidata website:

http://my.okidata.com/pp-ML393Plus.nsf/openingdrivermenu?OpenFrameSet

The most current driver for this product is already included in the Windows XP Operating System. Currently there are no updated drivers available. Follow the instructions below to correctly install your printer.

NOTE: The ML390/1 Turbo Printers are not on the current XP CD. Please use the IBM Proprinter or Epson LQ driver for these models.

The driver should automatically install once the printer is connected to the computer and powered on. If it does not automatically install, then do the following:

1. Click Start, then Control Panel.
2. Click Printers and Other Hardware or Printers and Faxes.
3. Verify that the printer icon is not already installed
4. Click Start, Turn Off Computer, then Turn Off to shut down the computer.
5. Connect the data cable either USB or parallel. If it is not then continue to step 5.
6. Turn on the printer.
7. Turn on the computer.
8. Theprinter will now be automatically detected.

If the printer prints fine through other windows applications ( NOT the printer test page which usually prints fine -- but like MS Word or from e-mail, etc), then it's Timberline's software that is a problem with XP drivers (and 2000 drivers forthat matter).
